Joel Dion Osawabine, 42, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Detroit.
Funeral services for Joel will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 2 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joey Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 31 from 4-9 p.m. and Wednesday, September 1, from 4-9 p.m.
Joel was born on April 20, 1968 in Grand Rapids, the son of James Thomas and Gwendolyn Rebecca (Kahgegab) Osawabine. Joel was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and enjoyed skateboarding and skiing.
Joel is survived by his son, Christopher Osawabine of Mt. Pleasant; father, James Thomas Osawabine of Mt. Pleasant; step-mother, Celia Osawabine; brothers, James Osawabine, Amos (Barb) Jackson, and Jonah Osawabine, all of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Sandra Jackson, Christina Osawabine, Faith Osawabine, all of Mt. Pleasant; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joel was preceded in death by his mother, Gwendolyn; brother, Bruce Osawabine; grandmothers; and great-grandmother, Maggie.
